KB 941673 - Force Windows Explorer in Vista to revert back to older OS file copy behavior with CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo - faster file copies!
Thishotfixand a registry setting will force Windows Explorer to revert back to using buffered synchronous I/O.Some scenarios will perform faster with this registry setting, and some scenarios will perform slower. Unfortunately, there are many variables such as network speed, drive speed, memory speed, and driver code quality that will affect the overall outcome.In general, though, I have seen file copies"go faster"with this fix and registry setting applied on my Thinkpad T60. Not terribly scientific, but worth mentioning.Create a DWORD key of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System\CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo and set the value to 1 to enable. You will need to installthis hotfixfor Windows Explorer to use this registry value.
